Becoming Grateful
Recovery built the house. Gratitude made it a home. This is who I am becoming. I live here.

Your brain is always being trained. By your habits. By your history. By what you repeatedly notice. Addiction trains the brain to scan for lack, threat, and escape. So does anxiety. So does shame. So does a life spent believing the story that something is fundamentally wrong with you.
Think Sober is not about stopping something. It's about becoming someone — through the deliberate, daily practice of noticing differently. Gratitude is the method. Identity is the destination. The life follows.
"Gratitude is one of those things — the more gratitude you have, the more things life will bring you to be grateful for."
— Anonymous
Identity is just the story you believe about who you can become —
the person you were meant to be.
Think Sober is the home for people who've done the hard work of getting sober,
or who want to — and are now ready to do the deeper work
of becoming who they were always meant to be.
Change the identity, and the life follows.
Think Sober didn't start as a publishing imprint or a movement. It started as a single book — a project on gratitude. But as the pages grew, the material deepened. It became clear this wasn't just a gratitude book — it was the foundation of something larger.
The early manuscript evolved into Think Sober. And when Dennis stepped back, he realized he wasn't holding one book — he had enough lived experience, identity work, and recovery wisdom for an entire series.
So he returned to the beginning and reshaped the gratitude manuscript into what it was always meant to be: Becoming Grateful. He wasn't writing a book. He was uncovering a movement.
It wasn't engineered. It was revealed. And that's why it resonates.
Dennis Woodson is a U.S. Air Force veteran, Certified Peer Recovery Supporter, and the founder of Think Sober LLC and Think Sober Press.
His recovery journey didn't end when he got sober. That was just the beginning. What came next — rebuilding identity, discovering purpose, learning what it means to become rather than just abstain — became the philosophy that drives everything Think Sober does.
He started giving that philosophy away before it had a name. First at Operation 139 at the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, Ohio — where he'd stand in front of men in recovery and share everything he was learning about gratitude and identity. Every time he left, he'd tell them: "One day I'm going to write a book on this."
He kept that promise.
Think Sober Press is the publishing arm of Think Sober, housing the Becoming Series — a multi-title curriculum of books, workbooks, and daily readers that anchor the identity-first recovery movement.
